STEP Registration

What is STEP?
The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals traveling abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Benefits of Enrolling in STEP
  • Receive important information from the Embassy about safety conditions in your destination country, helping you make informed decisions about your travel plans.
  • Help the U.S. Embassy contact you in an emergency, whether natural disaster, civil unrest, or family emergency.
  • Help family and friends get in touch with you in an emergency.

How do I Register with STEP?
Students, faculty and staff participating on a Trinity Study Abroad Program will be registered by the Study Abroad Office. All other students, faculty and staff traveling abroad for research/ work (if a TARR form is submitted) will need to create an individual account at https://step.state.gov/step/ to register in the STEP program.  If traveling with a group, please verify with the provider if they will or will not register you in the STEP program.

Is STEP Required?
Due to the increased risks associated with travel abroad, all faculty, staff and students traveling abroad on behalf of Trinity University are required to register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
